Within the Kepler pipeline, stars that have been identified with at least one Threshold Crossing Event (TCE) — which is a series of at least three transit-like signals with a consistent period — are put through a process called Data Validation (DV). In DV, diagnostic parameters are computed and plotted for each TCE to help determine if it is an instrumental artifact from the spacecraft, a blended binary or other astrophysical false positive, or a true planetary candidate. The pipeline generates both a very comprehensive multi-page report for each Kepler star with at least one TCE and a simple one-page summary providing much of the critical information for a quick assessment of candidacy.
